Mr. Aziz is a graduate student in the Marth laboratory at the Center for Nanomedicine and Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute on the UC Santa Barbara campus. His academic affiliation in graduate school at UCSB includes the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology. Mr. Aziz obtained a B.Sc. degree with a major in Microbiology at UCSB in 2012. His research at the CNM in the Marth laboratory is focused on infectious diseases that include studies of a newly discovered mechanism in the host that protects against the lethal complications of sepsis. Peter’s research includes close collaboration with acute care physicians and colleagues at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara that incorporates patients diagnosed with sepsis in order to better understand how to therapeutically intervene more effectively in mitigating this often deadly syndrome. His research is also developing a novel therapeutic approach to sepsis that may save millions of lives. Peter is applying to enter medical school and plans to continue contributing to biomedical research in the future.
