Mr. Ben Lewis is a Research Assistant in the Marth laboratory at the Center for Nanomedicine and Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute on the UC Santa Barbara campus. Ben obtained a B.Sc. degree with a major in Chemistry/Biochemistry from the College of Creative Studies at UCSB in 2019. His research at the CNM in the Marth laboratory is focused on determining the mechanism by which transgenic NOD mice encoding a human sialyltransferase are protected from developing type 1 diabetes. Ben is applying to enter medical school and plans to pursue an MD/PhD in order to contribute at the crux of clinical and translational medicine in the future.
