Dr. Won Ho Yang is a Scientific Associate in the Marth laboratory at the Center for Nanomedicine and Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute on the UC Santa Barbara campus. He obtained his B.Sc. degree in 2001 and Ph.D. degree in 2007 from Yonsei University in South Korea. His thesis research focused on a type of post-translational modification termed O-GlcNAcylation that modifies the structure and function of important nuclear and cytoplasmic proteins of cells, including the Tumor Suppressor p53 and NFkappaB p65. Subsequently, he joined the Marth laboratory at the CNM. Dr. Yang’s research is focused on discovering the mechanisms of infectious and inflammatory diseases including the origins of inflammatory bowel syndromes. His recent discoveries include pathogen-host interactions during infection and disease that are being applied to develop more effective treatment approaches for these life-threatening syndromes.
